【摘要】:Typesofpotentialleakpathshavebeenrelatedtothequalityofthesub-gradematerial,qualityofthecovermaterial,careinthecovermaterialinstallationandqualityofgeomembraneinstallation.Experiencedemonstratesthatgeomembranescanhaveleakscausedduringtheirinstallationandplacementofmaterial(s)ontheliner.Thedamagetoageomembranecanbedetectedusingelectricalleaklocationsystems.Suchsystemshavebeenusedsuccessfullytolocateleakpathsinelectrically-insulatinggeomembranessuchaspolyethylene,polypropylene,polyvinylchloride,chlorosulfonatedpolyethyleneandbituminousgeomembranesinstalledinbasins,ponds,tanks,oreandwastepads,andlandfillcells.Theprinciplebehindthesetechniquesistoplaceavoltageacrossasyntheticgeomembranelinerandthenlocateareaswhereelectricalcurrentflowsthroughdiscontinuitiesintheliner(asshownschematicallyinFig.1).Insulationmustbesecuredpriortoasurveytopreventpipepenetrations,flangebolts,steeldrains,andbattenstripsonconcretetoconductelectricitythroughthelinerandmaskpotentialleakpaths.Thelinermustactasaninsulatoracrosswhichanelectricalpotentialisapplied.Thiselectricdetectionmethodoflocatingpotentialleakpathsinageomembranecanbeperformedonexposedliners,onlinerscoveredwithwater,oronlinerscoveredbyaprotectivesoillayer,orboth.FIG.1SchematicofElectricalLeakDetectionMethod1.1Thisstandardguideisintendedtoassistindividualsorgroupsinassessingdifferentoptionsavailableforlocatingpotentialleakpathsininstalledgeomembranesthroughtheuseofelectricalmethods.Forclarity,thisdocumentusesthetermpotentialleakpathtomeanholes,punctures,tears,knifecuts,seamdefects,cracksandsimilarbreachesoverthepartialorentireareaofaninstalledgeomembrane.1.2Thisguidedoesnotcoversystemsthatarerestrictedtoseamtestingonly,nordoesitcoversystemsthatmaydetectleaksnon-electrically.Itdoesnotcoversystemsthatonlydetectthepresence,butnotthelocationofleaks.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatoryrequirementspriortouse.
